In a world where there are counsellors for everything; From alleviating depression, to the raising of a low Self -esteem, to those who counsel you and prepare you for marriage, or give consultation for a new and daring business idea; To such things as gardening or cooking classes, adventure holidays, and even past life hypnotherapy sessions....The list of consultencies is limitless. In such a world, where all things in life have a guidance facility, ultimately all beings look to be guided to a higher purpose in Life itself ! And for this they look for the most exalted master, the Spiritual Preceptor, the Great Seer, the Murshid, The Rishi ,The Jeddi, all of whom are, The Guru.
And what exactly does the Guru give you?
The somewhat interesting answer is : Nothing.
Yes, that’s right. The spiritual Guru cannot 'give' you anything. He cannot 'Give' you God, for God is already present. There never was a time that God was not present.
God is present, but due to the worldly dust that we have collected on our eyes, we cannot 'See'.
So here's what the Guru does : He cleans your meditative eye glasses for you with his words, his Satsangs, his analogies and inspirations, and of course, his special transmissions : And before you know it, he actually takes away some of the material junk you collect.
The Guru is quite a bit like the computer vendor who deletes unnecessary programmes and improves our speed to meet God!
It is said that when you look for God, He sends you a Guru. And The Guru works in mysterious ways. Sometimes he says things and gives instructions directly. At other times he delivers the right message with apparently wrong words. Sometimes what he says today is understood years later. Fortunate are those, upon whom the Guru bestows his blessings. The ultimate blessing of the Guru, is when he introduces you to your Self. Then, life takes on a new dimension, a new meaning; The whole of life becomes a Guru itself. You understand the unity of all things, you see the oneness everywhere, you have been returned to God by the Guru. Understand this mystic circle of return!
