Love and Learning

And so, life began beautifully for Shiva and Parvati at Kailash.
The days were filled with fun and joy, love and learning. Shiva would often expound deep mystic secrets and teachings to Parvati, and many a time, the ganas would be part of the audience.
“Lord, what is the essence of mysticism?” asked Parvati, one day. “Is it in tapasya? Is it in japa? Reading the scriptures? Selfless service? What is it?”

“Just be,” smiled Shiva.

“Just be?”

“A great mysticism lies in this,
there is no greater.
Just be
the way God meant you
to be
and listen to His heartbeat
in all, that you see.
just, Be.”

“Ah! Lovely! But what about all the things we see around us? If we ‘just be’, as you say, what happens about their existence in our lives?”

“Why do you ask
to cast,
division in elements
of earth, air, water,
fire or ether, as it may be?

Breathe deep and see: we, are all connected,
we are the one” smiled Shiva again.

“Ah, Swami, you put everything so enigmatically in your verses, it touches the very soul, and yet…”

“And yet?”

“And yet there is a lingering mystery… making us hunger for more…”
“Hmm…” hummed Shiva. “Yesterday’s questions, today answers, but, these are questions for tomorrow…”
“And so we go on and on…” Parvati smiled.
“And so we go on and on,” Shiva smiled. " Tell me why is it that hardly any, know of your esoteric exhortations?”  Parvati asked. “I mean, besides the ganas and other faithful at Kailash, hardly anyone knows about your spiritual lessons, whereas, I feel they should have been known world wide!”

“Hmm… the songs of God have been around for a while, but He allows us to take our own time in listening to them. This was true even in the original setting of the Bhagwad Gita. Krishna had been around in Arjuna's life for all his life! But only at the precise time did the divine combustion take place…”

“Divine combustion?”

“Yes. I once told you in a previous lifetime… It’s all a Godfire, this burning desire to know the Oneness behind all the beauty of the universe, the play, the purpose, the joy, and the very being here; all is a Godfire.”said Shiva enigmatically.

“Then I shall be God’s firewood and let the fire burn,” said Parvati with utmost devotion. “I fell in love with you even before I saw you,” She added. “The wood of this soul started to prepare itself to burn for you from the very time I saw the Shivalinga in Father Himavat’s family temple. I did so love the Shivalinga, and now I love you so much as Shiv Shanker, the handsome mendicant, who is my husband! You are mine! Mine, and only mine! But yes, you must be available to the rest of the world as a Guru. Tell me, why don’t you become a world Guru? Why be contented with just hanging out here in oblivion with just a few chosen ones?”

“There is a time for everything, Parvati,” said Shiva, suddenly turning serious, “So too, when the wise say, ‘the moment the student is ready, the Guru will appear’, actually they mean He will appear to appear… "
“The Guru is here already. He has always been!” shouted Nandi, in glee.
