Parvati's Tapasya

Parvati’s tapasya in the forest was a cosmic storm. She did what no yogi had done before; indeed, no Yogi would dream of doing. She actually wanted to test the veracity of the consciousness teachings by all the rishis, including the most venerated rishi Vashishta, by testing it in Her own life.
The world was Her school, the forest transformed into the laboratory, and Her body became the crucible in which to dissolve the elements of life. She stood on one leg, Her hands raised skywards, pointing high into the ether, in a salute to the ever ethereal One.
“Aum…” said Parvati, and the trees in the forest shuddered as if their own life force had been kindled out of a timeless dormancy. “Aum…” said Parvati a little louder, and this time the clouds in the sky responded with a tumultuous thunder. It was like they were drums, announcing the second coming of the first love.

And so began Parvati’s tryst with the forest, or more appropriately, the forest’s tryst with Parvati on how to attain the highest, the ethereal, the very source of one’s own being. Standing on one leg became the metaphor for aligning with the pristine ONE.

The days passed into months, and months into years, but there was no sign of Shiva, and neither did Parvati put down Her raised foot on Her own efforts.
