HE MAY BE GOD , BUT SHE IS THE COSMIC MOTHER!
A very important portrayal of Shiva accepting alms from Parvati , symbolising God's own acceptance of material sustenance in the hands of Mother Nature.
This shows a very healthy and respectful affirmation of the manifest world; which is precisely the way of Shaivites.
They respect all the things that this Universe offers.
Shiva in such role is called Bhikshatan and Parvati is Annapurna.
Such is the Divine lila that Lord Shiva has to beg alms from Parvati,He may be God, but she is, after all, the Cosmic mother and provides for all beings. And Shiva finds that even though He is the Primal being, nevertheless, He also comes under Her provision in the manifest world .And it is true also, that Nature is a mother who forever gives to all of God's fold,
His Blessings, collected in Her bowl.
